NORWAY IN THE WORLD
Internationalisation means …
taking interest in what is happening in other countries
and having contact with people abroad.
NAIROBI – KENYA
The pupils at Ringsaker videregående skole (upper secondary school) once again gave a day’s workpay to the MYSA-PROJECT (Mathare Youth Sports Association) – www.mysakenya.org. The amount this year was Nkr 191,855. It is Strømmestiftelsen that organizes this. In connection with the workday youth from Kenya participated in the International Week in October at our school. Moreover, it is a pleasure to see how the microfinance system has helped people from the Mathare slum to get their own dwellings. See www.strommestiftelsen.no Bye, Bye Mathare!
An interesting observation from the news is that many babies in Kenya now get names after Kofi Annan, the previous General Secretary of the United Nations, because he negotiated peace between politicians there not long ago. Also the American president, Barack Obama, is very popular there because of his Kenyan father and his grandmother, who still lives there. We intend to continue our friendship and cooperation with MYSA, Kenya.
STUDY TOURS FOR OUR GRADUATION CLASSES – GENERAL STUDIES
Last autumn we had our VG3 classes going on our traditional study tours to Budapest, Rome, Barcelona and Lisbon because planning and ordering of tickets were already done before the non-paying-principle for pupils was decided. Unfortunately, such cultural arrangements may now be history, and we regret this very much.
STUDY TOUR TO ISTANBUL
This study tour was well prepared in advance, and one of the lecturers was the author and Turkey specialist, Thorvald Steen.
Teachers from history/social science, religion, design and art and a counselor participated. Everybody was thrilled by the atmosphere in this exotic city, and the programme was tight. Among other things a visit to The Cultural High school was on the schedule, and we saw how the school was organized. We took part in various lessons and experienced everything from strict discipline to somewhat chaotic conditions. An informative and inspiring study tour. NOEL/ØSTL
SCHÜLER SEMINAR IN BERLIN
From 23.11.-28.11.2008 pupils from our VG2 German groups: Kristin Høgetveit and Kine Storsveen were delegates to the annual Schüler Seminar in Berlin. The theme this year was: Nachhaltigkeit: Menchenrechte Globalisieren – Sustainability: Globalize Human Rights.
Our delegates represented their school in a very nice way and have shared their experiences with groups at our school.
ASLE BRUSERUD - ASE CONFERENCE
Our teacher of mathematics and natural science, Asle Bruserud, attended an ASE-Conference West of London. ASE (Association for Science Education) is a public institution that works in order to increase the quality of the teaching of chemistry, biology, physics, and natural science. It was 4 days with lectures, courses, and workshops. In addition there was an exhibition hall for publishers, teaching books, and various equipment. In total there were 400 arrangements and 142 exhibitors at the conference. From Norway there were 25 teachers from elementary schools and upper secondary schools.
It was the best supplementary education I have participated in, and it was rewarding to meet other colleagues from other schools. AB
